Automatic Night Light Feeds Directly From the AC Line

Some approaches require a dc power supply and an electromechanical relay, but a better approach involves feeding the device directly from the ac line, minimizing the number of components 

(Figure 1).

The heart of the device is a light-sensitive cadmium-sulphide resistor, PR, with a resistance of approximately 200 kΩ in the dark and decreasing to a few kilohms in the light. PR and capacitor C1 form an ac-voltage divider. In daylight, the voltage across PR is too low to generate the required gate-trigger current to turn on bidirectional ac switch Q1, thus keeping the load – usually a lamp – off. When it becomes dark, PR’s resistance rises, resulting in an increase in the TRIAC’s gate current that triggers the TRIAC and lights the lamp.

The schema uses inexpensive, off-the-shelf components, including the VT90N1 photoresistor; a 0.1-μF, 275V capacitor; and an L2004F61 TRIAC with a load current of 4A rms, a peak blocking voltage of 200V, and a gate-trigger current of 5 mA. The exact specifications of these components are not critical; you could use others instead.

Editor’s note:
Attributes worth mentioning include the fact that the capacitor introduces a phase shift, which places the peak of the gate voltage close to the zero crossing of the load’s sine wave for optimum turn-on timing. Another benefit is thermal hysteresis, which occurs due to the reduction of the required triggering voltage and current as the TRIAC warms up after the initial turn-on.

Samsung will introduce the Galaxy Note 4 on 3 September

According to The Korea Times, Samsung will be announcing the Galaxy Note 4 on September 3, a day before the presentation of the Galaxy Note 3 last year.

The Gentle Touch Wiring diagram Schematic

The Gentle Touch Circuit Diagram. Consumer appliances these days hardly ever have a proper mains switch. Instead, appliances are turned on and off at the touch of a button on the remote control, just like any other function. This schema shows how a device (as long as it does not draw too high a current) can be switched on and off using a push button. The approach requires that a micro controller is already available in the schema, and a spare input port pin and a spare output port pin are required, along with a little software. When power is applied T1 initially remains turned off. When the button is pressed the gate of T1 is taken to ground and the p-channel power MOSFET conducts. The micro controller schema is now supplied with power. Within a short period the micro controller must take output PB1 high. This turns on n-channel MOSFET T1 which in turn keeps T1 turned on after the push-button is released.

Now the micro controller must poll the state of the push-button on its input port (PB0) at regular intervals. Immediately after switch-on it will detect that the button is pressed (a low level on the input port pin), and it must wait for the button to be released. When the button is next pressed the device must switch itself of f: to do this the firmware running in the micro controller must set the output port pin to a low level. When the button is subsequently released T1 will now turn off and the supply voltage will be removed from the schema.

The schema itself draws no current in the off state, and for (rechargeable) battery-powered appliances it is therefore best to put the switch before the voltage regulator. For mains-powered devices the switch can also be fitted before the voltage regulator (after the rectifier and smoothing capacitor). Since there is no mains switch there will still be a small standby current draw in this case due to the transformer. Be careful not to exceed the maximum gate-source voltage specification for T1: the IRFD9024 device suggested can withstand up to 20 V. At lower voltages R2 can be replaced by a wire link; otherwise suitable values for the voltage divider formed by R1 and R2 must be selected.

You should buy a D-type power connecter to connect this diagram outputs to the CDROM. The details of the D connector are shown along with the schema diagram. Note that the D-connector goes into the CDROM in only one way and hence prevents any damage due to wrong connection. Ensure that the 12V(yellow) wire is connected to the right of the D-connector(as seen from behind ,i.e the connector holes away from you with the curved portion of the connector upwards) As soon as an Audio CD is inserted, the CD begins to play. To move to the next track, press the Skip-Track button on the CDROM front Panel.
